Gunwharf Quays achieves security by design with Townscape Products
Perimeter security and street furniture specialist, Townscape Products, has illustrated the versatility of its vehicle security system, CT Block, at Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth.
The landmark regeneration scheme project managers, MFD, approached Townscape to design a hostile vehicle mitigation system which would enhance the external landscaping whilst offering PAS 68 security protection to the development.
Another important requirement was the upgrading of the existing cast-iron bollard system, ensuring their heritage marine design was retained.
Townscape designed a hardwood FSC-certified sapele timber surround to encase the CT Block system to create a planter, complete with a planting membrane and drainage material. The CT Block itself required only the usual 100mm recession, meaning installation was quick and cost effective.
To preserve the existing heritage bollards design, Townscape created 35 Performa-Cast™ polymer sleeves, in three different designs, to be fitted onto PAS 68 bollards. Performa-Cast™ is an engineering grade polyurethane cast, which offers an extremely strong, non-ferrous, non-rusting exterior surface.

Manufactured in the UK by Townscape, CT Block is designed specifically to prevent vehicle incursion into a zone around a building or secure areas, including public plazas. Built to the PAS 68 standard, CT Block is designed to stop and immobilise a 7.5 tonne vehicle travelling at a range of speeds between 30mph and 40 mph.
Gunwharf Quays is Portsmouth’s landmark regeneration scheme, consisting of 95 designer outlets, 30 restaurants, a cinema, comedy club, health and fitness centre, casino and bowling complex.
