CPM Group retaining blocks used in new busway project

Modular retaining blocks from CPM Group have been used in a guided busway project in Manchester.

Balfour Beatty worked on the 4.5km busway project from Leigh to Ellenbrook in Greater Manchester, which was designed after consultation with local residents, the local authorities and third parties such as the Environment Agency and Forestry Commission.
Around 175,000m³ of earth was removed during the extensive construction programme and Balfour Beatty decided to use CPM’s Redi-Rock™ modular retaining blocks. Benefits of this product include offering a pleasing aesthetic look to the project, being fast to install and being delivered ready to use in any weather.
The 14-stop busway is expected to reduce journey times between Leigh and central Manchester to less than 50 minutes. The high quality buses will avoid traffic congestion along the route and offer passengers more reliable, shorter journeys which are both smoother and quieter.
