John Newton Membranes Provides Church with New Waterproofing

The waterproofing specialist was involved in providing The Russian Orthodox Church in Chiswick, London with a new waterproofing solution.

This prestigious New Build project constructed in reinforced concrete was only two years old when the original “tanking” failed. The failure resulted in large areas of standing water to the lower ground floor. Extensive damage occurred to internal fixture and fittings rendering the property unfit for use.

NSBC Contractor Advanced Preservations were called into to design and install a robust waterproofing solution. John Newton Membranes 508 Meshed membrane was installed in the convoluted areas of the church with Newton 508 applied to the other wall areas. The Basedrain was cited at the wall floor junction of all retaining walls to capture and divert ingression of water to Newton Titan Pumping System.

The floor areas were protected with Newton 520 as a lost drainage layer as the integrity of the RC slab was in question. Insulation was then deployed on the 520 with Newton 501 Slimline installed above as an effective dpm. A 65mm screed and floating floor was then chosen as the final floor finish to the project. A combination of direct plaster to the 508 Mesh and independent dry-lining was used as a finish with plasterboard and skim.

The church was able to retain its original features and contours with the Newton 508 Meshed membrane. The combination of quality design and materials ensured the property was once again fit for purpose.

Due to the nature of the Newton System, minimal surface work was required and the project was completed within a four week period with the security of an insured back guarantee provided by the NSBC Contractor.
