Safety Boost
Workplaces have a much better safety record now and fatality numbers continue to decline, but falls from height remain a common form of workplace injury. The construction industry presents many risks in this sector, with the predominance of scaffolding and ladders and the need to work on roofs or abseil down the sides of buildings.
The Work at Height Regulations 2005 have been credited with cutting the number of fall injuries and responsible employers follow the guidance on safe working practices and the use of appropriate equipment.
There is now a wide range of fall arrest systems available that provide maximum safety for employees while being flexible enough to enable them to carry out their task. These include lifelines, harnesses, special ladders and safety systems that operate overhead, vertically, horizontally or across inclines.
