Types and Benefits
Concrete is a brittle material which performs well in compression, but is less effective when in tension. Reinforcement in concrete is used to absorb tensile forces so that cracking, which often occurs, does not weaken the structure.
Concrete is used extensively within the construction industry for many applications including floors, walls, balconies, columns, slabs, staircases and much more.
Concrete reinforcement has for many years been in the form of steel bars or mesh, otherwise known as re-bar. The reinforcement is designed for use with concrete slabs which are used for forms of loading such as carrying traffic, spanning a void or bearing another structure.
