Types and Uses
There’s no denying that concealing services like pipes, cables, valves and meters greatly improves the aesthetics of a home or commercial property. But at some time, these building elements will need to be accessed for regular or emergency maintenance. Overlooking this requirement at the planning stage can cause major disruption later.
The solution is to provide walls and ceilings with sufficient access panels – or access hatches – to enable personnel to carry out essential tasks without damaging the building fabric or decor. The panel should blend in with the surroundings as much as possible. They are generally manufactured in durable ABS or steel enabling them to be painted on site to the required colour.
Steel panels are available in fire rated options to meet building regulations. ABS panels offer resistance to chemicals and temperature changes. Various sizes are available depending on the function of the void being accessed. Access panels are mostly hinged, with a choice of simple pull catches or secure locks and some models have removable doors.
