Site Solutions
Soil stabilisation – modifying the ground before construction begins to make it a viable surface for development works – can be achieved by mechanical or chemical methods.
Mechanical methods of ground stabilisation usually involve the laying of geogrids. These can make a huge improvement to weak ground, spreading the load to give a longer life to unpaved roads found on construction sites and at quarries, and improve safety at numerous sites where heavy tracked plant is used.
Using geogrids to stabilise ground means less granular material is needed to achieve load bearing capacity. Construction times and costs are both reduced.
Chemical soil stabilisation involves using chemicals to enhance the physical properties of soil and bind together contaminants. Lime and cement are most commonly used.
