What are fireboards and why do I need one for a multifuel fire in the house?
Please explain in simple terms what could happen if you do not have one?
Many thanks,
Diana
Hello Diana
Fire boards are non-combustible fire resistant boards placed in various locations, for example at the bottom end of the fire stack or inside the fireplace to facilitate the safe installation of solid fuel fires.
Promat featured above offers a product called Supalux made from calcium silicate, reinforced with selected fibres and fillers which comes in various sheet sizes and is easily cut to suit.
The installation of domestic stoves are now covered by Building Regulations and the householder should contact their Local Authority Building Control Team before commencing for advice and help with information on the location of fire boards. A list of contact numbers can be found at the top of the page in the Construction Resources section.
If you are required to have a fire board in a certain location and have not installed it, then you may well be at risk of setting fire to your house.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards
Debbie Prince - The Construction Centre
