Which is the best recommended building block for a single skin external wall? If possible it should be weatherproof and provide good insulation properties.

It would depend on whether you require a block with a decorative finish or are planning to render the building. Hanson's Thermalite blocks are most suitable for rendering and have both good insulation and moisture resistant properties. Which is the best recommended building block for a single skin external porch wall? It should be weatherproof and provide good insulation properties.

Hanson's Thermalite blocks, as mentioned in the previous answer would also be suitable for the single skin porch wall you describe, especially if you are planning a rendered finish.
