Sewage Pumps - the unseen and unsung heroes
Sewage pumps might be an unseen part of building projects – and they are certainly unglamorous – but they are invaluable in areas where straightforward connection to the mains sewer is not possible.
They are the answer for moving waste from bathrooms that are below the sewage line – for example basement conversions – and for properties that are not connected to the mains system, a sewage pump will help break down and pump waste out of the house into the septic tank.
It’s important to understand the difference between sewage pumps and effluent pumps. A sewage pump can handle sizeable solids, generally up to 50mm diameter. An effluent pump is designed for much smaller solids and is more suited to waste from sinks and kitchen appliances.
Sewage pumps have a tough and dirty job to do, so need to be built with robust and durable materials and components. They can have 2-3 times the output of a regular sump pump, but are designed to run less frequently. Heavy-duty sewage pumps are not intended for light use things like a garden water feature.
