I am currently constructing 2 houses on a steep sloping site where the properties are 2 storey at the front, 3 at the rear. We are looking at using a system a little like a french drain at the front of the property, approx 3m below ground level to try and disperse water from around the property and prevent ingress.
Using 4 pipes with holes pre drilled around the foundations, sloping towards the rear of the property, backfilled with pea gravel above so any water above lower ground level will hopefully filter into these pipes and be dispered safely to the rear of the property. Can you please advise if you think this is suitable and if not suggest a better alternative?
Thank you
This sounds a very challenging and interesting project and your proposed scheme seems well thought through. Nevertheless, as this is a site specific matter, I am not in a position to advise you. I would however strongly recommend that you discuss the drainage solutions with your Local Authority Building Control Team, particularly as they will ultimately have to approve the details. Recently, it seems that their requirements have become quite stringent, even for the most simple soakaway system. Contact details for your Local Authority can be found under Construction Resources above.
Kind regards
