Designs on Doors

For years dismissed as something purely functional, doors are now becoming recognised as an important interior design element. A huge difference can be made to a property’s appearance by replacing internal doors. The wide range of contemporary or traditional styles on offer, plus choice of timbers, means there is an internal door on the market to suit any kind property and design theme. For something unique, or a non-standard size opening, custom doors are available.

Doors are produced with particular specifications for different applications – for instance meeting fire regulations. Internal doors are generally 35mm or 40mm thick, but those certified for fire protection will be 45mm to meet FD30 or 54mm for FD60.

Most modern internal doors are engineered, comprising a strong core of a variety of timbers which is faced with a veneer of real timber. Solid timber doors are also available. However substantial the construction, doors made for internal use should not be used externally.

Timbers available include oak, pine and hardwood among others. Doors can be supplied pre-finished, which speeds up installation time, or un-finished for the buyer to add their own stain or varnish – this is popular with traditional ranges.
