Types and Uses of External Doors
We are all aware of how important first impressions are. With a property, the external doors are one of the first things to be noticed. That means great care should be taken in selecting the look of an external door, while not forgetting that other essential feature – security.
With today’s emphasis on energy efficiency, insulation is another important aspect to consider. When it comes to materials, there is a wide choice. Doors have been made from timber for centuries and there are many examples of the longevity that can be achieved by combining good quality timbers with careful craftsmanship. Plastic or composite doors are modern, low maintenance alternatives and thermally broken aluminium is another option. Steel offers high security but is generally more aesthetically suited to industrial premises.
Featured Company – Urban Front
External doors manufactured by British company Urban Front combine the strength of a steel core with the undoubted beauty of natural hardwood. The company was formed by designers frustrated by the lack of contemporary doors on the market. Now Urban Front is proud to design and manufacture stunning hinged and pivot doors to customer’s exact requirements, at the company’s base in Buckinghamshire.
The front doors, with garage doors available to complement most designs, are not only beautiful to look at but also incredibly strong and highly insulated. Certified Passive house doors with a door leaf U-value tested to 0.8 W/m2K are among the ranges offered. All doors feature a steel reinforced warp resistant core with stabilising layer and are finished with interior and exterior door faces of 20mm of solid timber in seven different woods. High security locks, 3D concealed and pivot hinges and high grade stainless steel fittings complete the finished article. Doors are CE marked to EN14351-1.
There is a choice of designs and configurations, with sidelights and sidepanels and overpanels available. Each door is made to order, up to 1200 x 2400mm in the E80 pivot door ranges and up to 1040 x 2400mm in the E80 hinged door ranges.
