York Minster Prepares for Royal Visit with Rolawn Turf
Chadwick Landscapes of Leeds has recently laid Rolawn Medallion turf in an area of the grounds surrounding York Minster as part of preparations for today’s visit by HM The Queen.
The Queen is visiting York for the Royal Maundy Service which is being held at York Minster on Maundy Thursday, April 5th. She is distributing Maundy money to pensioners in recognition of their service to their community and their church.
The tradition of the Sovereign giving Maundy Money to the poor dates back to the 13th century. Since the 15th century, the number of Maundy coins handed out, and the number of people receiving the coins, has been related to the Sovereign’s age.
