Willmott Dixon chooses Safety Letterbox for Fire-Rated Mailboxes
Willmott Dixon, renowned for delivering high-quality housing solutions, is proud to announce the development of 37 new homes for Kensington and Chelsea Council as part of the New Homes Delivery Program. Integral to this project was ensuring the safety and security of future residents, which led Willmott Dixon to partner with The Safety Letterbox Company for a state-of-the-art, fire-rated mailbox solution.
After collaborating closely with the Willmott Dixon team, it was determined that a 2-hour fire-rated mailbox system was necessary to meet the stringent safety standards required for the development. Additionally, the solution needed to comply with the Secured by Design guidelines in Homes 2022, employing an airlock system within the buildings. The goal was a through-the-wall mail solution that would maintain the wall's integrity in the event of a fire, providing residents with crucial time to evacuate safely.
The Safety Letterbox Company stepped up to the challenge by manufacturing, supplying, and installing their fully compliant through-the-wall 120-minute Fire Rated FR3 mailboxes in Black (RAL 9005). These FR3 mailboxes are certified to BS EN 1363-1 standards, having been rigorously tested by Warringtonfire. This certification ensures the mailboxes can withstand fire exposure and maintain the wall's integrity for up to 2 hours.
The innovative design of the FR3 mailboxes features an in-front, out-rear configuration. Postal workers can deposit mail through the front of the mailboxes located in Airlock 1, while residents retrieve their mail from the back in Airlock 2. This design not only enhances safety by preventing unauthorized access but also ensures residents can access their mail 24/7 comfortably and securely within the property.
