Warranty initiative from VMZINC gains widespread contractor support
With growing specification of zinc as a building envelope material, VMZINC has strengthened its partnership with the UK’s leading metal roofing contractors by introducing ‘VMZINC@WORK’. The scheme will enable installers to offer a 30-year materials warranty, conditions of which include a commitment to ongoing training of all staff (including sub-contractors) as well as a full understanding of VMZINC recommendations including detailing and roof build ups.
UK Sales and Marketing Manager Damon Lusby explained: “The increasing popularity of zinc has resulted in its specification for building designs of immense diversity. Feedback from architects told us that such a scheme would give them greater confidence to specify it while illustrating our commitment to high installation standards. The contractors who install our systems all have a track record of successful VMZINC projects to their name but the vast majority have already committed to the tighter controls which the scheme requires. As well as following our recommendations they are also bringing their hard metal roofing skills to the wide range of projects undertaken. Such a partnership makes a far stronger technical case for the use of zinc.”
Among the experienced contractors who have already been involved in training, Graham Backhurst of GSL (Southern) commented: “Everyone involved in zinc installation should attend these courses as the content is relevant to all of us, from initial enquiry to the last nail.
“We were given the opportunity prior to the event to highlight any areas we needed to focus on, on this occasion standing seam locations in vertical cladding around window openings. The practical element focused on this and though some areas such as substrate, pitch etc had been covered before, they are so important that they merit continual reminder. Presenters were very confident and answered all the questions, of which there were many.”
