SSP Goes Extra Mile for Wet Pour Rubber Play Area
Kent-based playground surfacing company SSP Ltd has recently completed its first wet pour rubber safety surface contract in Orkney, for the Shapinsay Community Centre on the island of Shapinsay.
“We were approached by the Shapinsay Development Trust regarding the re-surfacing of their play park,” explains Andrew Lofting, SSP’s Play Area Surfacing Project Manager. “The wet pour rubber materials were shipped to the island by container and our play surface installers took the ferry from John O’Groats to the Orkney Island called The Mainland and then a further ferry to Shapinsay.”
Wet Pour Rubber Installer Nick Fallon said: “It was a long journey but the island was very pretty and the people really helpful and friendly. Once we had finished our work for the day we were able to take in the sights. It was definitely the most relaxing project I have worked on.”
The Shapinsay Development Trust successfully bid for grants for its new play surface from Children In Need, The Trusthouse Charitable Foundation, The Gannochy Trust, The Robertson Trust and Orkney Islands Councils Community Development Fund and Early Years Fund. The final phase of the project, replacing the old rubber matting with a new Wetpour surface, was made possible by a donation from Balfour Estate.
SSP Ltd supplies and installs play and safety surfaces for children’s play for schools, nurseries, pre-schools, visitor centres and local councils.
