Space Air delighted with news of Domestic RHI in April 2014

Space Air is delighted by the long awaited news from DECC, that the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) will be introduced into the domestic sector in April 2014. Mark Houghton, Commercial Director, commented: “At last we have confirmation that investors in air to water heat pump technologies will be able to benefit from RHI payments and we expect this to translate into fresh market stimulus for which we and the industry have been preparing.”

The RHI support will be paid at a set rate per unit of renewable heat produced (kilowatt hour or kWh), for seven years, to the owner of the heating system – the tariff for Air to water Heat Pumps has been set at 7.3p/kWh. Applicants installing heat pumps will also receive an extra £230 if they install heat metering and monitoring service packages.

The RHI is one of the Government’s efforts to meet greenhouse gas emission reduction targets and was launched in November 2011 for non-domestic sector, providing payments for renewable heating equipment to businesses and public sector organisations. Now the government has announced that from next April, the RHI will also provide financial support to the domestic sector for renewable heat and the scheme has been extended to include more technologies, including Air to water Heat pumps.

All applicants are required to complete a Green Deal Assessment before applying to the DRHI scheme to ensure that they have met minimum energy efficiency requirements. This scheme is also available to those on a gas grid unlike the RHHP scheme.
