Second production line for Tubosider
Tubosider UK is now operating two production lines, greatly increasing its capacity and reducing the lead times for all its stormwater attenuation systems – whether they are conventional, Twinstore, or soakaways.
The second machine arrived last year as part of Tubosider’s purchase of the manufacturing equipment of Atlantic CSP, a rival in corrugated steel drainage tanks and culverts. It has since been undergoing improvements and modifications to meet all its H&S requirements prior to commissioning.
Apart from adding to Tubosider’s capacity, and enabling the company to grow its service in line with its plans, the purchase made Tubosider the UK and Ireland’s only supplier of corrugated steel stormwater systems.
The new line installed at the St Helens factory has been fitted close to the fabrication area, where pipe sections and other components are prefabricated and welded ready for delivery and completed installation on site.
“Having a second line gives us all sorts of advantages,” says production manager Mark Fegan, “particularly the ability to dedicate each machine to its own range of pipe sizes.
“All pipes up to 1.2 metre diameter are being manufactured on the new machine, while everything above up to 3.6 metres is still being turned out on our other machine.
“That saves us on the downtime we needed to change pipe size and corrugation, and gives us much more flexibility in how we operate between the two lines. All this will benefit customers across the board in how quickly and smoothly we supply them.”
