Sandtex Trade 365 tackles Cumbrian all weather challenge

When South Lakes Housing Association refurbished 276 properties in the depth of the Cumbrian winter, Sandtex Trade 365 All Weather Masonry Paint helped keep work on schedule.

The majority of the work at the Kirkbarrow Estate in Kendal started in November 2014 and finished in late summer 2015 – with Sandtex Trade 365 being applied throughout winter, spring and summer.
The product is specially formulated for use in adverse weather conditions and features high performance Pliolite® Resin to combat difficult weather conditions, allowing work to extend later into the UK’s traditional decorating season.
It can be applied at temperatures as low as minus 10 degrees C, giving specifiers the option of selecting a product that can be applied outdoors later than they might usually expect. Sandtex Trade 365 is also rain-resistant in 20 minutes, so can be used when there is a threat of showers.
The works at Kirkbarrow Estate have included wall tie replacement, patch render repairs and full render paintwork and are part of a £38 million; five year investment programme across the association’s housing stock. Crown Paints has been selected as a supplier, with a number of contractors working on the various sites.
Lisa Maguire, Customer Experience Manager at South Lakes Housing Association said: “We chose Sandtex Trade 365 because we can use it all year round and in 20 minutes it’s water resistant. Because of our climate that’s really important to us.”
As well as exceptional performance in poorer weather conditions, Sandtex Trade 365 also offers 15 years’ proven durability, with exceptional adhesion providing a long-lasting finish which has been independently certified by the British Board of Agrément.
This offers specifiers the benefits of a reduced maintenance cycle, delivering greater value for money and supporting sustainability initiatives.
Lisa added: “As well as the application benefits, a major bonus for us is that it has made the properties look good.
“We’ve had different contractors using it and it’s been a really good product to apply. It covers render patching very well.”
Nigel Jones, Quantity Surveyor at Keepmoat Regeneration, has been involved in the works at Kirkbarrow Estate. He said: “We’ve done the majority of the work from November 2014 onwards through the worst time of the year.
“Sandtex Trade 365 can be applied in poor weather conditions and we’ve managed to progress through the estate although the weather has been bad.
“If you look at the quality of the paint work on the external elevations where patch render has taken place the paint gives the impression that full render repair has been undertaken.
“We’re really happy with the end result and the technical back up we’ve had from Crown Paints has been excellent.”A video has been produced about the Kirkbarrow Estate project, which can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4K-nVSWutA
