Owner delighted with Urban Front solution for home refurbishment
When the owner of a 1970s house being transformed into a stylish modern home wanted something special for the front door, one of Urban Front’s designers was able to suggest the perfect solution.
There were quite a few planning restrictions on the refurbishment of the home in the Hertfordshire countryside. The front of the house could change, but the bricks had to be retained and therefore this limited the choices when it came to the design of the house.
The dilemma for Mrs Tanem, the owner of this project, was the fact that she really didn’t want a standard grey RAL painted door. It had to be something stylish, elegant and interesting. When Urban Front recommended choosing a grey oil on Oak for her front door, she was very happy to go for it.
The grain, the colour and the durability of oak make it the perfect choice for many projects and it works wonders with contemporary and traditional buildings. If you’re concerned that it may appear to be a bit yellow in tone, that is easily fixed by choosing a lacquered finish. Lacquer helps to cool down the yellow and makes the wood finish a little more beige. Alternatively, opt for an oiled finish to bring out the grain and a richer colour.
The RAW e80 pivot door at 1200 x 2400mm was chosen as the best fit in this case and the grey oil used to soften the yellowness of the oak. It works well with 7016 which is the RAL number used for the windows on this project and especially well with the sidelight which was provided by the window company.
Mrs Tanem also chose a concealed handle which adds to the contemporary feel.
