North Wales Disabled Riding Centre Saves Money by Going Green with Solar
A North Wales riding school for the disabled has gone green with the installation of solar panels to generate electricity.
Buckley-based AT Green Electrical completed the installation of the 8kW solar photovoltaic (PV) system at Clwyd Special Riding Centre in Llanfynydd, near Wrexham.
The Tegreon solar panels – accredited under the Microgeneration Certificate Scheme (MCS) – will provide electricity for offices, an accommodation block and stables at the centre and were supplied by Wirral-based renewable energy products manufacturer Stiebel Eltron.
Clwyd Special Riding Centre is a registered charity run by a group of volunteers and welcomes over 200 people of all ages every week with special needs.
The solar panels will significantly reduce the centre’s electricity bill and carbon footprint, as well as providing a cash injection every quarter through the Government’s Feed In Tariff incentive.
Robert Thompson, trustee at the riding centre, said: “The green aspect of the installation is very important to us, as we believe in reducing carbon wherever possible here, but it was also the financial aspect of solar PV that appealed to us.
“As a charity we have to be as shrewd as possible with our money, and as a long term investment solar panels were a very good option for the centre. We will save on our energy bills and get money back thanks to the Feed In Tariff.
“We had the panels up and running at the start of December and Stiebel Eltron was very good about explaining the system and finding the right fit for us.”
The centre, which is a member of the Riding for the Disabled Association, also has purpose built accommodation to offer holiday packages for those with disabilities who want to benefit from the pleasure and stimulation of riding, carriage-driving and equestrian vaulting.
Stiebel Eltron is one of the world’s leading renewable energy products manufacturers. The company’s managing director Mark McManus said: “The Clwyd Special Riding Centre is a fabulous place and offers an excellent service, and as a charity we are particularly pleased that we have been able to specify a system that will not only save them money, but provide them with ‘cash back’ payments in the future.
“This project is also a good example of how owners of all types of property are looking at the best solutions for bringing buildings up to current green standards.”
“Solar panels are one of the most straightforward renewable power generation technologies. It can be installed quickly and planning permission is rarely required as it is permitted development.”
The Tegreon solar range is one of the most attractive on the market with an extended warranty of ten years. It further has guaranteed performance levels of 90pc of original specification for 12 years and 80pc for 25 years whereas most of its competitors stop at 80pc for 20 years.
