Newton launches first waterproof membranes recycling service in UK

Newton Waterproofing Systems is proud to announce the launch of the UK’s first waterproofing membrane recycling service.

The service, which is being run in partnership with the Newton Specialist Basement Contractor network, is a way to reduce the hundreds of tonnes of cavity drainage membrane waste that is currently sent to land-fill by the UK waterproofing industry, and is a mark of Newton’s commitment to lowering its carbon footprint.

By using the “back to base” membrane recycling facility, Newton and its NSBCs will actively recycle off-cuts of virgin and recycled HDPE from commercial and domestic construction sites throughout the UK. This bespoke service allows Newton to not only offer specifiers a quality waterproofing solution installed by a fully trained and competent professional, it also shows a real commitment to waste reduction. The company holds ISO 14001 certification and is always seeking to improve its environmental credentials, as well as all participants who are associated with us in the structural waterproofing industry.

Newton and its NSBC network already ensure the company’s HDPE membrane systems are installed in the most efficient manner with continuous focus on quality and minimal wastage. It is, however inevitable that some off-cuts will be produced. This is why the Newton Membrane Recycling Service has been launched for collecting, recycling and reusing the waste created by the installation of its cavity drain membranes.

To provide the service, Newton has dedicated drivers who will pick up HDPE from the site or offices of its NSBC network for recycling back at the head office in Tonbridge, Kent. The recycled off-cuts are also collected at the same time as new construction membranes are being delivered, thus saving on dedicated pick ups and the associated carbon emissions.

Specifiers and end clients should look for the NSBC Membrane Recycling Service logo on vehicles and literature as a mark of quality assurance that the HDPE membranes are being recycled and not sent to landfill.

A You Tube video is available explaining more about the service and what contractors, developers, architects and recycling organisations think about it.
