Mumford & Wood introduces enhanced Conservation product range
Mumford & Wood, the award-winning specialist manufacturer of traditionally styled Conservation™ windows, glazed French doorsets and bi-fold doors, has introduced a variety of new enhancements to this popular range making it the most comprehensive, bespoke collection made in the UK.
The new collection combines the company’s technical expertise with new technologies to deliver market leading performance and superior aesthetics. There is now greater flexibility with a variety of glazing and finishing options. This includes the introduction of the slim 12mm double glazed panel Conservation™ Box Sash window which has been specially designed to appeal to the listed and historic buildings sectors and for period-style new build.
The Conservation™ box sash, with 12mm krypton gas filled units, will meet the requirement to achieve the original putty glazed appearance of period windows. It is suitable for all types of sash window replacement but is particularly useful where traditional interior and exterior decorative features are to be retained. Available with optional Victorian sheet glass, these units will carry an industry-leading 10-year warranty on glazing and a whole frame U-value of 1.7 W/m²K.
Across the Conservation™ collection there is now a wider range of glass unit sizes, from depths of 12mm, 14mm and 24mm as standard. All thicknesses can be accommodated within the same size rebate so there is no visual impact on the elegant and traditional profiles for which Mumford & Wood products are renowned. This applies to the NEW 24mm triple glazed Conservation™ product which offers no loss of traditional features while providing exceptional levels of thermal performance.
“These changes have been made with architectural guidance and are a result of considerable research and development in response to specifier and customer demand,” says Steve Purcell, national sales manager, Mumford & Wood. “While aesthetics remain a major consideration to these exceptional products we appreciate that thermal performance is critical if Government targets are to be met by the middle of this decade. Our standard 24mm glazed panel provides a whole frame U-value of 1.3 W/m²K, which exceeds the requirements of Pt L Building Regulations 2013, whilst our new triple glazed option provides a very comfortable centre pane U-value of 0.8 W/m²K and whole frame U-value of 1.1 W/m²K.”
With security an increasingly important consideration for designers and property owners, Mumford & Wood have redesigned the Conservation™ spring sash, box sash and casement window, together with complementary glazed door products, to accommodate internal glazing. Glazing from the room side enhances the aesthetic appearance whilst increasing the difficulty to gain access to the property creating a welcome deterrent for intruders. Visual improvements to the design construction has overcome the need, where glass meets wood, for the use of external silicone capping, traditionally used in white, black or grey, and is therefore no longer visible.
“Our customers are always very happy with the factory-applied paint finish of the Mumford & Wood product,” continues Steve Purcell, “and we deliver to site with three coats of high quality paint or stain finish as standard. But particularly exciting for our end-user customers is the option to colour match with heritage colour paints on both external and internal frames. Smart white will always be available but the current trend is for traditional colours and finishes and our Conservation™ products look terrific in a variety of vibrant colours and subtle shades.”
Bespoke products in the Mumford & Wood Conservation™ range are manufactured from anti-warp, anti-twist engineered and sustainably sourced, Siberian larch as standard. They are finished with high quality locking systems that meet Secured by Design criteria, and attractive architectural ironmongery in a choice of styles and finishes. Conservation™ products carry the BSI Kitemark of distinction and are Energy Saving Trust recommended. Independent performance testing has achieved air permeability to meet EN1026; water tightness to EN1027 and resistance to wind movement to meet EN12211 with safety test under pressure to meet Class C5.
