Metrotile roof keeps visitors to country park warm and dry

Metrotile Lightweight Steel Roofing now adorns the rooftop of the Bryn Bach Country Park visitor centre near Tredegar, South Wales.

Installed to replace the previous leaking so-called ‘traditional’ material roof that was allowing water ingress in the cafeteria area, the new Metrotile roof has given the facility a new lease of life and an attractive makeover.

Some 2,600 of Metrotile’s vandal proof Slate 900 profile, each covering almost half a square metre but weighing just 4.6kg, now cover the 1,300 square metres roof of the visitor centre. The new roof was installed by Swansea roofing contractors MA Hartley, working with main contractor Merthyr Tydfil-based M Delacey and Sons.

Blaenau Gwent Council owns the site and leases it to Aneurin Leisure Trust, which manages the daily running of Bryn Bach Park – 340 acres of mixed grass and woodland and a 36-acre lake.

Discussing the project, Metrotile Sales Director Barry Jordan, who oversaw the project, stated: “Bryn Bach Park is an aesthetically pleasing location but the previous roof was not doing the visitor centre justice. Now it has a smart new Metrotile roof installed it provides a stunning finish to an impressive building.”

Paul Exton, of M DeLacey, said: “The new building looks extremely smart and the slate grey colour of the roof blends in really well with the surroundings. We must pay tribute to the work of MA Hartley roofing who did great work in inclement weather they have been good to work with, as have Metrotile UK, throughout the process.”

Tony Clarke of contractors MA Hartley roofing said: “Staff at the centre have been brilliant in giving us access and with a product like Metrotile which is so quick to install we have been able to provide a good-looking roof for the users. It’s a low-level roof so the visitors will really be able to appreciate the work which has been done.”
