Jackpad begins 2014 with Commonwealth Games contract
Leicestershire-based Jackpad Ltd started 2014 with a contract to provide foundations to support a 53 bay modular building at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow, to be used as the international Media Centre for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The project, being managed by Nussli, with the modules being supplied by Portakabin Scotland, comprises nine buildings, linked with walkways and a canopy.
The 12-metre Portakabin Ultima modules vary from two to 12 bays and will house a café, broadcasting centre, high definition production area and administrative offices.
Kris Cartwright, Managing Director of Jackpad Ltd, said: “We were delighted to be awarded this project by Portakabin Scotland. Jackpad was chosen because of the speed it can be installed and the reduction in remedial works required upon completion of the project post games. The non invasive foundation system can be removed from site with ease, immediately returning the car park to its intended function.
“The system is made from 100% recycled and recyclable materials and it is perfect for this type of project. Jackpads were also used for portable buildings during the London Olympics, so the brand already has sporting heritage!”
The International Media Centre is being constructed on a site which includes a fall of 700mm so Jackpad’s incremental packers and adjusters are ideal. For more information about Jackpad visit http://www.jackpad.co.uk
