New Cross Hospital is a new build facility run by the Royal Wolverhampton NHS trust. The New Cross site provides 800 beds which include intensive care beds and neonatal intensive care cots.
New Cross Hospital provides Accident and Emergency, Critical Care and Outpatients facilities among others and makes Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust one of the largest healthcare providers in the West Midlands.
The project scope was to install and supply laboratory furniture for three floors of a new pathology building at New Cross Hospital Wolverhampton. The furniture needed to ensure total reliability and safety for medical practitioners and patients alike.
Each floor was colour coded to denote each laboratory area; red was used for haematology, blue for microbiology and green for cancer diagnosis. This was implemented as a simple measure to make it easier for professionals and patients to navigate the building - hugely important in a medical setting.
The installation included Fume Cupboards and Extraction, a mixture of fixed laboratory benching and suspended laboratory furniture to facilitate easy cleaning. This can accommodate quick turnarounds in the trust, ideal for busy days when the medical professionals are expected to see a large number of patients.
The furniture was made using Laminate faced moisture resistance board and featured soft close hinges and stainless steel handles. A range of bespoke mobile trolleys were also included, some of the trolleys had under-bench furniture incorporated with the trolleys.

Reagent shelving was also provided to the benching to supply both electrical and gas services to the benching areas. All aspects of the project were considered with the intention of providing efficient assistance to the medical teams of New Cross Hospital – allowing them to completely concentrate on the job at hand.
