High Care Air Diffusers for Eden Project
Originally specified by Buro Happold, HCA designed the fabric distribution system for a new section of Cornwall’s Eden project in conjunction with Totus Engineering Ltd of Exeter. The system is designed to provide heating and tempered fresh air to customers utilising the new restaurant area of the Biome Link Project, a venue available to hire linking the two most popular Biomes of the park.
Working with Totus Engineering HCA has designed a system of Half Round Diffusers that sit at angles on the underside of a swept balcony overlooking the whole vast open area. Using its expert knowledge of the Prihoda product and the flexibility of manufacturing each order uniquely for each customer, HCA was able to introduce several innovations for this prestigious project.
The ducts will have internal lighting supplied by a strip of LED lights attached to a Velcro strip sewn into the inside top of the duct; to make the diffusers an aesthetic and visual feature as part of overall services installation. In all EIGHT ducts have been provided, each connecting to a 610mm x 203mm flat oval and transforming into its half round shape using the zip together fabric transition to create a seamless duct from one common material.
To project the air into the room HCA has designed a mixture of larger diameter laser cut perforations within a block of smaller 0.4mm diameter perforations. The larger diameter perforations project a smaller percentage of the supply air from the duct but provide the impulse and direction required for the air pattern. The block of smaller laser cut micro perforations provide the majority of the supply air which is encouraged in the correct direction by the air exiting the larger diffusers, but at a lower overall velocity. The unique combination of the two providing low velocity but directional air supply.
