Flexseal staff and Tidy Team clean up
During three afternoons in late March, employees of Barnsley-based UK coupling manufacturer Flexseal donned their high vis jackets and joined members of the local council’s Tidy Team to clear up streets and pathways around their factory.
“Local businessman and resident Paul Leeuwerke of Utility Consulting & Engineering Ltd originally brought the litter problem to our attention and also joined us for the litter pick sessions,” explained Flexseal’s Managing Director, Lee Pashley.
“As soon as the suggestion was made, we could see that the clean-up would make a real difference to our local environment. It was simple to organise, especially with all the help the Flexseal team received from the Tidy Team, yet marks a distinct improvement in our local surroundings for everyone who lives and works in the area,” Lee continued.
The Tidy Team is an initiative led by the local Area Council of Barnsley MBC, with a remit to help make their area more welcoming, by focussing on issues such as littering, dog fouling and shrub maintenance. They brought all necessary equipment with them and removed all of the litter at the end of each picking session.
Flexseal employees from all departments, including production, sales and accounts, joined in during their working day.
Areas cleared included sections of the Trans Pennine Trail, which passes Flexseal’s premises. The timing of the clean-up sessions was also apt, as they were organised during the week following the national Government’s designated ‘Community Clear Up Day’ on the 21st March – the first day of Spring.
“It’s fantastic to see how much was achieved by the litter pick in such a short space of time,” concluded Lee.
