Press Room: Flakt Woods invests in future

Flakt Woods invests in future

As a leader in air movement technology, Fläkt Woods endeavours to invest in school leavers with its respected apprenticeship scheme. Apprentices receive the best formal training at Fläkt Woods’ manufacturing site in Colchester and gain vital work experience.

New apprentices at Flakt Woods

Fläkt Woods has developed and continued to evolve over its 100 years history and apprentices have been invaluable in the company’s progression.

Fläkt Woods recently counted the number of current employees that have gone through the company’s apprenticeship programme, and out of 310 current employees, a total of 46 have passed through the scheme – with a combined total of 946 years service!

“The apprenticeship scheme is very important to Fläkt Woods and enables the company to provide training and development to the apprentices utilising the in-house expertise of ex-apprentices and other staff to ensure that this knowledge is transferred. The apprentices will spend a few months within each department, such as shop-floor, manufacturing services support, sales, purchasing, IT and quality to name a few, which gives them a unique opportunity of providing an insight into the overall organisation,” stated Helen Gilfillan Fläkt Woods HR Director.

Helen goes on to say: “Within the HR department we are able to compile training plans that incorporate vocational training, on-the-job training and day release with the support of the Colchester Institute to complete their formal qualification. The objective is to ascertain what areas they excel in to try and provide suitable permanent employment at the end of the scheme. It also assists the organisation with ongoing succession planning.”

Fläkt Woods has just recently taken on four more apprentices (pictured), taking the total to 11 in its current program. This shows its continued commitment with the apprenticeship scheme and to developing young people. Demonstrating the high calibre of the program and Fläkt Woods staff, Fläkt Woods is pleased to share that its apprentice Alex Moore won the 2015 Apprentice of the Year at the recent Essex Countywide Business Awards.

The Fläkt Woods apprenticeship scheme has been running for many years and even to this day still is successful in finding and appointing the highest calibre of people which enables the company to develop and maintain its very high standards.
