Duchess Unveils Good Directions Jubilee Pillar Clock
The Duchess of Cornwall officially unveiled a new Diamond Jubilee clock manufactured by Good Directions Ltd, which takes pride of place in the village of Colnbrook.
The Minden Band of the Queen’s Division provided music and scores of villagers waved Union flags as they watched the Duchess of Cornwall remove the cover from the commemorative pillar clock in the heart of their conservation area.
Colnbrook has a proud history of celebrating historic occasions with a clock. The village originally had a clock commemorating the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra in August 1902. However, when the building on which the clock was mounted was demolished in about 1931 no alternative site could be found for it. The clock was put away for over 40 years until it was restored in 1977 to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee. It is now on display inside the local inn.
The new four-sided Jubilee pillar clock has been installed near the site of the earlier Coronation clock. Constructed from cast aluminium with a GRP dial box, the new Good Directions clock is 5.5 metres tall with skeleton dials set to illuminate at night. It is finished in gloss black with gold leaf detailing to complement the surrounding street furniture and provides a stunning focal point for the village. Good Directions’ state-of-the-art Total Control System supplies the chimes and automatically adjusts the clock after power failures and at the summer and winter time changes.
Good Directions is proud to have been chosen for such a prestigious project and privileged that so many of the company’s clocks now form an important part of regeneration schemes and celebrations across the UK, creating local focal points for so many people to enjoy.
