Crown Paints pledges continued support for pioneering Youth Zone programme

Crown Paints has renewed its support for Blackburn Youth Zone, a pioneering project that sets a blueprint for empowering young people and promoting community cohesion.

The paint manufacturer is continuing to act as a patron for the charity, which is powering ahead with a range of initiatives and activities to champion youngsters in the Blackburn and Darwen area.

At the heart of the charity’s work is a 21st century youth hub, designed to provide a positively-charged environment to transform the prospects for eight to 18 years old in the area.

The facility is open 365 days a year, seven days a week and offers up to 20 activities each session, in areas as diverse as video production, archery, dance, music, sport and drama.

Since it opened its doors in 2012, Blackburn Youth Zone has had more than 100,000 visits and 25 per cent of the local youth population has joined the centre.

Crown Paints, which has its headquarters in Darwen, Lancashire, is one of a series of partners within the local business community, along with Blackburn with Darwen Council, who have supported the charity.

Peter Little, Chief Executive of Blackburn Youth Zone, said: “Crown Paints has been a significant and dedicated supporter of our charity from the beginning and we are delighted they have chosen to continue backing us.

“It is clear that Crown Paints genuinely does care about the community and we are very proud to remain one of their supported partners.”

Graham Haworth of Crown Paints said: “Blackburn Youth Zone is a superb facility, which is equipping young people with life skills, increased confidence and independence, which in turn helps regenerate the local area and economy.

“It provides a positive focus to channel the energy and creativity of young people and we are very pleased to continue our relationship with such a great cause.”
