Clos-o-Mat adaptations add value to childrens education

Children with disabilities are benefitting from an innovative approach to adapting their environment.

Disability adaptations

Cornwall Council has commissioned facilities management provider CORMAC Ltd to deliver value-added adaptations to school premises, to accommodate specific special needs pupil requirements.

To enable the children to integrate into primary and secondary mainstream schools as far as possible, alterations have ranged from simply adding a ceiling track hoist in a toilet, through inclusion of Clos-o-Mat Palma Vita wash & dry toilets and creation of a full hygiene/medical room, to adding specialist platform and wheelchair lifts, all provided by Clos-o-Mat.

In total, 19 schools were jointly surveyed with Occupational Therapists in order to devise and execute a plan for each that would address and solve the medical, pastoral and access needs of new pupils with disabilities to participate in school life with minimal effort. All works were to be carried out within a tight timeframe in order to minimise impact on school activity. CORMAC utilised its extensive surfacing contracting teams to deliver path and ramp accessibility improvements as well as its internal disabled aid refurbishment teams working in partnership with Clos-o-Mat.

“We wanted to use a specialist supplier capable of delivering a diverse range of adaptations within challenging timescales,” explained CORMAC Contracts Manager Andy Medlin. “Clos-o-Mat demonstrated proven reliability in terms of delivery, excellent customer service, equipment and technical support.”
