Ark Lighting helps put swimmers in the light and council in the money
Leeds City Council approached Ark Lighting to provide an improved lighting design for the aquatics centre at the John Charles Centre for Sport. The brief was for the new system to also save money by reducing energy consumption and Ark Lighting was able to deliver this thanks to its vast choice of efficient and innovative LED lighting systems.
The large aquatics centre has swimming and diving pools including an Olympic-sized facility, so the fixtures had to be suitable for the humid and corrosive atmosphere found in this type of environment. Therefore stainless steel fixings were used throughout and the project used a combination of Arrow LED Floodlight and Saturn LED High Bay.
To reduce glare a mixture of direct and indirect aiming was used. The result provided a 33% increase in light levels and a 48% reduction in energy consumption.
