Light and Space from Dulux Trade used in New Show Homes
Dulux Trade’s light and space range seals the deal with St James Urban Living show homes in London.
Dulux Trade has bowled over one of its long standing customers with its Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt paint in the Light & Space colour range. St James Urban Living, part of the Berkeley Group, is an award winning sustainable developer and has been a Dulux Trade customer for 10 years, during which time it has been a loyal advocate and user of the brand’s Vinyl Matt in Pure Brilliant White.
When the call came in to the Dulux Trade experts for three new show home sites across London, St James Urban Living instinctively opted for its usual order. Moreover, following recommendation from the Dulux Trade Corporate Account Manager, Paul Munday, St James Urban Living recognised the sustainability and performance benefits that could be gained from using the innovative Light & Space colour range.
Even though its apartments are generous in size, St James Urban Living was naturally keen to enhance the spacious living areas in order to show the properties at their fullest potential to prospective buyers. Light & Space from Dulux Trade is a unique colour range that uses groundbreaking Lumitec technology to make rooms look and feel more spacious, an effect achieved due to an ultra high Light Reflectance Value (LRV).
Steve Dickinson, Commercial Director at St James Urban Living, explains: “We had used Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt for such a long time, so I was a little hesitant about changing ranges. We know that when it comes to show homes, first impressions are absolutely pivotal, and our first impression of Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt in Light & Space was definitely a positive one. It has made a notable difference to the properties, while maintaining the high quality standards we have come to expect from Dulux Trade.
“The paint really reflects the light throughout the show homes’ rooms, which makes them look brighter, fresher and more inviting. We are so pleased with the end result that Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt Light & Space will be at the top of our list when selecting wall finishes in all show properties moving forward.”
Nick Watson, Brand Manager for Added Value Products at Dulux Trade concludes: “The fact that Light & Space colours enables up to 22 per cent less lighting energy to be used is another boost to St James Urban Living’s sustainability credentials as an environmentally responsible property developer, so it’s win – win for them.(1)
“We understand the pressure on housing developers in these challenging economic times, and innovative solutions like Light & Space from Dulux Trade can make a real difference. The fact that St James Urban Living has been won over by Vinyl Matt in the Light & Space colour range and will be considering the paint in future developments is testimony to this.”

(1) This figure is based on theoretical calculations on pairs of bare rooms of dimensions 4 × 3 × 2.4m where the light incident on all surfaces is averaged. The rooms all have the same mid-grey floor colour (LRV 50). They have a white ceiling and a colour on the walls. In one of each pair these are from the Light & Space range. In the other they are conventional products. The Light & Space and conventional colours have similar hue (colour family) and chroma (intensity of colour). The energy savings will not always equate to 22%. They will vary depending on the contents, dimensions and floor colour of the room and will differ if lighting in particular areas needs to be controlled. The calculated figure varies from 14% to 28% depending on the wall colour chosen. The actual light energy savings achieved in practice may differ from the calculations.
