John Newton Membranes Waterproofs Conversion Property in Kensington

The Newton System 500 provided the most effective and trouble free water management solution for the conversion of Little Boltons in Kensington, London.

A Design and Build Basement construction specialist was tasked to lower the internal levels of the entire property and underpin the structure so as to provide an entirely new level within the property. Having successfully underpinned the property the contractor used John Newton Membranes Newton System 500 to provide the most effective and trouble free water management solution.

Newton System 500 was mechanically fixed back to the original brick substrate. Newton Basedrain was placed on top of the structural slab and 50mm of closed cell insulation was installed, abutting the drainage channel. From here, Newton 508 was placed on top of the insulation, with a 65 min screed on top. The drainage aspects of this property were as such that no open elevations were available for discharging the Basedrain, so the Newton Titan Plus sump and pump system with battery back up capabilities was installed.

This system gives the occupier piece of mind that in the event of power failure, the fully charged battery back up will engage and provide protection to the property.

A 80 decibel high water alarm is activated which alerts the homeowner if there has been an anomaly with the system. The Newton System installed in the conversion negates the need for costly and expensive surface preparation (bush hammering, raking mortar joints etc) as the membrane itself can be curtain hung with minimal fixings if the dry lining frame is deployed as the choice of internal finish.
