John Newton Membranes Waterproofing Designed for New Development
The company designed a bespoke structural waterproofing system for new basement accommodation in the New Forest Hotel, Hampshire.
As a part of this circa £50 million pound development, John Newton Membranes Specialist Basement Contractor MacLennan Waterproofing was commissioned to design and install a robust and cost effective water management solution to four large basements areas used for habitable accommodation in accordance with BS8102:1990.
Once the RC concrete basement box was created, Newton 508 was curtain hung to all earth retaining walls, terminating behind the Newton Basedrain rebated into the structural slab. Newton 508 was also introduced into the basements as a floor membrane followed by insulating the screed.
The internal block work was then put up in front of the Newton 508 and was able to be tied back to the original RC wall throughout, the MultiPlug heads giving lateral support to the block work without compromising the membrane in any way. The Basedrain was then terminated into a Newton Titan Pumping System (one in each area) to evacuate any water ingress.
This was an extremely wet site meaning that the logistics of installing any external membrane would have been very difficult. The internal cavity drain system was installed quickly in a clean environment, making quality workmanship achievable and the project was completed within tight time scales.
The main contractor Carillion and the specifier had the benefit of a company that could design and install taking full product and installation liability. The GPI guarantee was insurance backed meaning that were the company to go out of business the client would be fully protected.
