John Newton Membranes Undertakes Wallis House Basement Waterproofing
John Newton Membranes waterproofing is used in the renovation project for the Grade 1 listed building in Middlesex.
This stunning Deco fronted building was built between 1936 and 1942 and had been empty for a period of years. Location wise it sits just of the A40 and was owned by GSK, having formally been an aircraft part factory, bought then by Beechams and most recently by Barratt Homes for renovation to a complex of luxury apartment.
NSBC contractor Maclennan Waterproofing was brought into the project at the initial design stage. The waterproofing requirements for this large commercial development covered 4000 square metres on two levels. Barratt Homes had considered other methods of waterproofing i.e. applying a bitumen based product to the walls and floors. However, MacLennan waterproofing demonstrated the benefits of the Newton System 500 which would require no surface preparation and thus began the installation.
Newton 508 was applied directly to the substrate with minimal fixings. The Basedrain was placed on top of the slab with closed cell insulation abutting it and the Newton 508 applied on top of the insulation in preparation for a 65mm screed finish. As the property was not retaining on all elevations gravity fed drainage was able to be utilised.
Large areas of this property could be waterproofed cleanly and effectively without the unnecessary problems of surface preparation. This meant that wet trades could be avoided. The independent dry lining system used in front of the Newton 508 on the walls allows for ease of running services and installing insulation.
Maclennan Waterproofing provided Barratt Homes with a full design and installation service with full PI and product insurance. The waterproofing works were also completed on schedule.
