John Newton Membranes Helps Transform Grade II Listed Building into Nightclub
The Royal Court Hotel in Bath had a new John Newton Membranes waterproofing system installed, preparing it for its transformation into a new nightclub.
Located in Central Bath, this was a prime location, having access from street level. Being a listed structure conservation, architects were keen to develop the space without incurring extensive damage to the original building fabric. The previously unused basement was to be converted to a local Nightclub.
Newton Specialist Basement Contractor Protectahome Ltd was commissioned to design and install a robust waterproofing system in accordance with BS8102 and English Heritage guidelines.
John Newton Membranes 508 membrane was mechanically fixed to the convoluted vaults with NuSeal fixing plugs in preparation for a 6:1:1 render mix to the applied direct to the membrane system. Newton 508 was installed to the vertical plane below the springing point in preparation for battens to be fixed into the heads of the fixing plugs.
The Newton System installed drained into two Titan sump systems, each with battery back-up facilities and an 80 decibel high water alarm.
Within a two week period, Protectahome had designed and installed a highly effective waterproofing solution and the clients were delighted with the speed of installation and the cost effective nature of the system.
Minimal surface preparation was required ensuring that the proposed solution was sympathetic to the conservation architects requirements. The club was opened ahead of schedule with the benefit of an insured guarantee to compliment the professional design and installation.
