Housing Blocks Given New Lease of Life by Cemplas
Two mid-1960s traditional reinforced concrete framed buildings in Brent, London, have had extensive defects repaired by Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs Ltd.
The blocks at Summit House required specialist concrete repairs and specialist coatings as part of Brent Housing Partnership social housing refurbishment programme.
Following a visual survey and inspection by Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs Limited, a successful tender was submitted, and the main contractor Niblock, appointed Cemplas the task of carrying out the full remedial works.
Once on-site work commenced on carrying out a full hammer test of the concrete, followed by a Cover meter survey, and undertaking tests to determine if chlorides were present.
On completion of the survey, works were carried out to 1–16, a four-storey block, and 17–56, a 12-storey tower block to grit blasting and remove all the existing coatings, Concrete repairs using Sika Monotop 615, Sika Monotop 620 levelling mortar, Sika Feroguard 903 corrosion Inhibitor, and the application of Sikagard 550W Anti-Carbonation Coating.
