Dulux Trade Launches No-Nonsense Guide to Water-Based Paints

Dulux Trade is assisting professional painters and decorators in making the switch to water-based trim coatings with the launch of a practical guide and DVD. To support increased use of the coatings across the industry, Dulux Trade has created the ‘Getting the Best Out of Water-Based Paints’ pack to help appliers achieve a perfect finish.

As a worldwide leader in the paint industry, Dulux Trade is constantly driving product improvement. In line with this company-wide approach, Dulux Trade has developed an advanced range of high performance water-borne trim paints especially for professional decorators. The water-based solutions, which include Dulux Trade Diamond Satinwood, Ecosure Gloss and Weathershield Quick Drying Exterior Gloss, boast benefits such as faster drying times, lower odour, and easier clean up.
However, water-based coatings require different preparation and application techniques to achieve a professional quality finish. With this in mind, Dulux Trade has produced the handy, no-nonsense guide to using its water-based coatings, which comprises a leaflet and accompanying DVD. Featuring tips such as which brush type is best to use, how to abrade a surface, and advice on tool cleaning, the new guide gives professional appliers all the information they need to use the new generation of paints effectively.
“Following changes in Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) legislation, which required paint manufacturers to reduce the solvent content of their products, decorators are using water-based trim paints more regularly,” said Stephanie Brown, Brand Manager for the Dulux Trade core range. “Moving from more traditional solvent-based trim paints to water-borne alternatives is a big step for the painter and decorator, but master the application, and you’ll get the results you want.
“With this in mind, we’ve worked with our elite network of professional appliers, who’ve shared with us their experiences of using water-based coatings on a daily basis. Using their feedback and technical advice from Dulux Trade, we’ve created a manual that is a ‘must have’ for every painting professional during this transition period.”
The release of the ‘Getting the Best Out of Water-Based Paints’ pack follows significant investment by Dulux Trade in improving the performance of its water-borne coatings. Following intensive product developments, Dulux Trade has created a range of water-based trim paints that give excellent coverage, durability and are non-yellowing.
In addition to this, the company’s water-based coatings are low in VOCs compared to solvent-based paints and ultimately, are better for the environment. The Ecosure Gloss and Undercoat system for example, has a low environmental impact as it contains 78% less VOC emissions and has a 30% reduction in embodied carbon compared to an equivalent solvent-based gloss and undercoat system. Its cans also have at least 50% recycled content. In addition, Dulux Trade Diamond Satinwood and Weathershield Quick Drying Exterior Gloss deliver sustainability through durability. Diamond Satinwood is 10 times tougher than its solvent-based equivalent, and Weathershield Quick Drying Exterior Gloss offers the highest standard of exterior protection for up to six years.
