Dulux Trade Helps Restore Local Heritage in Swindon
Leading brand Dulux Trade’s Exterior Gloss System for doors is chosen to protect the exterior doors and windows of the Brunel Railway Village in the borough of Swindon.
When Swindon Borough Council embarked on a project to improve the Brunel Railway Village and help preserve its heritage for future generations, it turned to the industry experts at Dulux Trade to provide a decorating solution that was suitable for use on all of its new doors. The solution lay with the Dulux Trade Weathershield Exterior Gloss System.
The BBA certified Weathershield Exterior Gloss System from Dulux Trade helps to extend maintenance cycles for new work and redecoration, providing up to eight years protection for exterior doors, windows and other joinery, and thereby lowering total maintenance costs. The system contains algicides and fungicides to resist mould growth and displays excellent opacity to give superior covering power.
The Weathershield Exterior Gloss System is formulated to include unique Dulux Trade NAD Technology, which means the solution can tolerate minor expansions and contractions of wood, ensuring the surface remains in peak condition for the longest possible time.
Looking to improve not only the standard of finish and extend the maintenance cycles at the railway village, but also to match the original colour scheme of the 1830’s building, the specification team at Dulux Trade worked closely with Swindon Borough Council to create a brand new colour.
Moreover, to add increased longevity to the solution, the new colour was formulated for both the undercoat and the topcoat gloss, meaning that the different layers of paint would blend well together.
Mark Walker, Housing Policy and Regeneration Manager at Swindon Borough Council commented: “Having partnered with Dulux Trade in the past, we selected the company for this job because of its understanding and knowledge of the local heritage in Swindon. The ability to be flexible and adaptable was also crucial, and Dulux Trade was able to formulate the exact shade of paint required for the job, ensuring the building met the heritage requirements set by the Secretary of State.
“The new doors look fantastic and have made a significant visual impact to the village. This project is a work in progress, but the new doors have completed an important piece of the jigsaw in transforming the railway village back to its original design.”
Due to the success of this project, experts from the Dulux Trade Weathershield team are now actively involved with Swindon Borough Council, and will be working on further regeneration projects for the village.
