CUPA achieves ISO 14001 certification

Cupa Natural Slate has achieved ISO 14001:2000 certification in recognition of its environmental credentials.

For the past 18 months, the company has been working towards the establishment of an Environmental Policy, ensuring compliance with local, national and international environmental rules and best practice. Cupa Staff have been proactively engaged in paper recycling, reducing energy consumption and various other daily activities, to further improve the company’s environmental standing.

ISO 14001:2000 complements those standards already achieved by the company. These include the Belgium ATG, French NF and the European CE Mark. In addition, all Cupa Natural Slate conforms to BSEN 12326-2:2000.

Cupa constantly strives to achieve the highest quality standards and is presently engaged in the approval processes for several European Certifications, including BRE in the UK and FDES in France.

Today, Cupa Natural Slate is the world’s leading brand in natural slate, with over forty years experience in the slate roofing market and exports of more than 199,000 tonnes to more than 20 countries. The global importance achieved by the company, and its market leadership, is recognised by the fact that one in four of the natural slates used in roofing around the world is a Cupa Natural Slate.

Notes to Editor
There are many factors to be considered when choosing a material for roofing a building. However, if reduced carbon emissions and environmental impact are among the most important considerations, there can be no better choice than natural slate.” Joan Walsh, Author and Consultant Geologist, Natural Roofing Slate.

CUPA crafts around one in every four of the natural roofing slate specified worldwide.

The company leads the world in natural slate production; producing more than 195,000 tonnes of slate annually from its own quarries. CUPA takes quality control and testing seriously and has rigorous systems in place to ensure that each slate meets or exceeds all internationally recognised standards. The company's chemical-free quarrying and government monitored land reinstatement programme make Cupa Natural Slate an attractive option in terms of environmental impact and sustainability when compared to man-made alternatives.
