Cemplas Waterproofs Wembley Pedestrian Walkway

The waterproofing and concrete repair specialist completes refurbishment project at Wembley stadium.

Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs Limited were appointed by Laing O’Rourke to refurbish the main pedways between Wembley Station and Wembley Stadium.

The large concrete structure was built during the mid 20th century on giant columns that have to support around 90,000 people visiting major events. The project was worth £180,000 and Cemplas was tasked with stripping out the 100 metre structure, installing a non-slip waterproof deck coating, replacing all expansion joints and refurbishing the remaining concrete structure.

Cemplas were given a generic engineering specification for the work but the experience of the company enabled it to submit its own, which not only exceeded requirements, but did so at a much lower cost.

The structure was generally run down with a delaminating floor, all the expansion joints had failed, and the concrete was suffering from spalling and extensive cracking. The lifting and delaminating floor was replaced and the new one benefited from Cemplas’ extensive expertise in waterproofing and resin systems. Remedial concrete repairs were carried out using proprietary repair products and cracks were resin injected. The expansion joints were replaced using high performance air-seal bridge joints.
