Cemplas Ensures a Safe Passage for Hotel Guests
When the partially enclosed fire escape staircases to the South West, South East and North West elevations of the luxury five-star Grosvenor House hotel in London’s Park Lane required refurbishment, Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs Limited was directly appointed by Gleeds who are the project managers for the J. W. Marriott Hotel group.
As the Grosvenor House Hotel would remain occupied throughout the duration of works, noise levels, time restrictions, and safety were paramount in the programming of all the work undertaken.
Work was carried out from mobile towers, for safety issues these were erected and dismantled at the end of each day, and the staircases were fully swept clean to remove all debris ensuring there was safe passage in the event of any emergency.
The works undertaken by Cemplas comprised remedial concrete and granite repairs, followed by applying specialist coatings to all the landings, soffits, treads and risers to the three staircases. Works commenced with jet washing all areas of the stairwell soffits, steps and landings.
Following a survey by Cemplas surveyors, all indentified defective areas to the concrete soffits and granite stair treads were fully repaired with Renderoc HB repair mortar and any of the railing supports which were found to be poor or loose were also repaired.
Once fully cleaned and repaired, two coats of Fosroc Dekguard W anti-carbonation were applied to all staircase soffits.
Landings, stair treads and riser were refurbished by applying two coats of Fosroc Nitofloor FC140 resin floor coating, incorporating an anti-slip aggregate.
On completion of the works, Cemplas provided the Marriott Hotel Group with a 10-year workmanship guarantee.
