Cemplas Car Park Refurbishment Tastes Better for Sainsburys
When Sainsbury’s built a new store in High Wycombe, the company made the decision to retain the existing multi-storey car park, and completely refurbish it.
Formed in 1969, Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs Ltd has previously undertaken refurbishment work to many of Sainsbury’s car parks, and having worked on other projects with Bowmer and Kirkland the principal main contractor, Cemplas submitted a tender which included both the material specification, and design detail to undertake the refurbishment, and was appointed the task of carrying out the £400K contract for surface coating works, concrete repairs and other works to the 10-storey building.
As this was a 24-hour operational car park, over a six-month period Cemplas carried out the work during both the day time, and night time, and although the car park remained in use at all times, Cemplas successfully completed the work on time, and to the satisfaction of both the main contractor, and their client.
Work undertaken by Cemplas included full remedial concrete repairs throughout to soffits, columns and walls using Sika Monotop 610 and 616 repair mortars, followed by the application of Sika’s 617W Anti-Carbonation protective coating.
The floor areas which were found to be in a very poor condition, required major breaking out, and re-casting by Cemplas using Sika Rapid Repair Mortar, a fast setting repair mortar for car park decks and ramps which can be driven over within three hours. On completion of the floor slab repairs, Cemplas removed the existing coating to the intermediate car park floor decks, which were then prepared, and primed with Sika 161 and coated with SikaFloor 264 Top coat.
To meet the programme deadline, and ensure the top decks of the car park could be opened as quickly as possible, they were coated with Sika Pronto, a fast cure MMA flexible waterproof coating. Cemplas also carried out the line marking of the entire car park, which included alterations to meet with the new traffic flow requirements of Sainsbury.
In addition to the extensive surface coating and remedial concrete repairs works, Cemplas installed the crash barriers, carried out drainage works, and completely redecorated everything which included specialist coatings to soffits, walls, and columns, and also carried out all the general painting works.
Operating as a specialist, Cemplas has both the capacity and resources to undertake projects in excess of £1million in-house; and has a management structure capable of running multi-disciplined projects incorporating a wide variety of trade activities, as well as the ones in which it specialises and undertakes itself.
