APL standing seam roof and louvre profile for new Foyle Arena
Sustainable roofing profiles and cladding manufacturer Architectural Profiles Limited was a major supplier to the stunning new Foyle Arena in Derry.
This masterpiece of metal envelope construction, designed by Samuel Stevenson & Sons architects, houses multiple sports facilities including a 25m swimming pool, mountaineering training and full size football pitches.
The roofs were formed in APL StrongBak™ Structural Framing System. The main roof areas were then clad with an APL Standing Seam roof profile which also acted as the acoustic ceiling to accommodate the noise levels that a sports hall would be experiencing.
The APL StrongBak™ was supplied in pre-coated steel to the general areas and aluminium over the swimming pool. This is thermally and acoustically insulated and includes a vapour control layer and an APL Tritherm™ sub-frame system which carries the AP65ZS Standing Seam roof profile.
The underside of the perforated StrongBak itself is the finished ceiling which eliminates the requirement, and the cost, of further suspended ceiling installation and treatments. The integrated roof assembly has not only achieved the most elegant external roof lines but also the most efficient and good looking acoustic ceiling underside.
An APL aluminium PPC Louvre profile was also provided for the walls of the swimming pool areas.
