Addastone resin bonded surfacing for West Sussex flood defence scheme
LDA Design was appointed as Landscape Architect to transform the waterfront alongside the River Arun at Littlehampton Reaches as part of a major flood defence works project. The scheme also included regeneration of the promenade with new surfacing for the walkways and steps.
Due to the nature of the project, a resilient, low maintenance surfacing was required for this public space, that would be aesthetically pleasing and stand up to the harsh seafront elements. LDA Design specified Addastone Resin Bonded surfacing in a hard wearing foot grade Chinese Bauxite for the pedestrian areas and a Guyanan Bauxite for the treads of the steps to improve slip resistance.
Addagrip approved contractor True Grip Ltd worked with main contractor Hobart Paving to install over 780 sq m of the Addastone Resin Bonded system to pathways and step treads at the seafront. One of the challenges was the marking out and precision installation of 190lm of Addastone Guyanan Bauxite strips on the nosing of the steps to improve slip resistance and delineate the edge of the step. True Grip also had to work around the changeable winter weather whilst ensuring that access was maintained to this very busy public space.
The scheme was completed summer 2015.
