SWR Balustrade is based in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire and specialises in the design and manufacture of modern and innovative steel and timber handrails, glass balustrade and stainless steel balustrade systems. SWR can work with a client’s own drawings whether it is a free hand sketch or an architect’s technical drawing, designing a system that is appropriate for that particular application. The systems are all designed for ease of installation and SWR provides an in-house drilling and cutting service. The skilled engineers will assist in specifying a client’s exact requirements in relation to the height of newels and posts, handrail lengths and the positioning of any holes that are required for the infill components.
Products
The majority of the balustrade system simply slots and glues together, with some drilling required and can be installed by a competent fitter or alternatively SWR can arrange full installation. The stainless steel products are manufactured using either AlSl304 stainless steel for internal applications or Marine grade AlSl316 stainless steel which is durable and suited to external applications. The end product is finished with a satin polish finish or a bright mirror finish is available upon request. Building Regulations must be factored into any design, although the final decision is the responsibility of the client and building inspector. SWR is happy to assist with individual specifications and test certificates can be provided for complete peace of mind.
Modular Balustrade System
The modular balustrade system is one of SWR’s most popular designs due to the versatility of the design, making it suitable for virtually any application. The system comes in two sizes, 42.4mm for domestic applications and 48.3mm for commercial applications. This flexible system can incorporate various infill options including toughened glass, horizontal and vertical wire rope and horizontal or vertical 12mm solid stainless steel bars. Bespoke infills are also available upon request. The stainless steel modular system includes the following components:

Modular Glass Balustrade System
The modular glass balustrade system is a sleek and contemporary design and is being widely specified for many new applications. The brackets are designed to hold glass ranging from 6-12mm thick and have been impact load tested to BSi standards. Top handrails can be incorporated into the system as an optional extra. As this system prevents any climbing activity, it has been deemed a safe application by buildings regulations.
Glass Balustrade Channel System
The glass balustrade channel system does not feature any upright posts and is supported by a solid aluminium channel which is either floor or side fixed. The system is designed to hold glass of 15mm, 19m or 25mm thicknesses which is held in place with a wedge system. To offer extra structural stability and a complete contemporary and stylish finish, a stainless steel handrail can be fitted to the top of the glass. The system components include:

Timber Effect Steel Handrails
The timber effect stainless steel handrail (T.E.S.S) offers a low maintenance finish which is longer lasting and more durable than a wooden handrail. T.E.S.S will not warp, bend or deteriorate and does not require any treatments or varnishing. T.E.S.S is exclusively available through SWR in light, golden and dark oak finishes, with alternatives available upon request.
Timber Handrails
The high quality SWR oak timber handrails come in lengths of 2.4 metres, with a diameter of 45mm and offer a natural look and feel. As timber handrails are a natural product, SWR cannot offer a guarantee on such products or accept responsibility for any deterioration of the wood following sale and installation.
