Step on Safety Ltd is a leading UK distributor and installer of many fibreglass products including various gratings, hand railing, access platforms, ladders and stairways; along with a wide range of fully tested anti slip materials such as stair tread covers and stair nosing, ladder rung covers and tactile flooring.
The company manufactures GRP access structures in accordance with British Standards and offers a comprehensive design and build service using CAD technology. All the Quartzgrip™ range of Anti Slip products meet BS 7976 – 2 requirements and are certified as providing an outstanding level of slip resistance. Step on Safety is an ISO 9001 accredited company.
The company based in Manningtree, Essex, holds a large stock and is able to offer a speedy nationwide delivery on most of its ranges. An on-site installation service is available for all products. Customers include major companies such as Transport for London, Wembley Stadium and the London Aquarium, who have selected Step on Safety products for their durability, high strength, corrosion resistance and lightweight characteristics.
Products
Moulded Open Mesh Fibreglass (FRP/GRP) Grating
Quartzgrip™ fibreglass open mesh grating is available in light, standard and heavy duty versions for a wide range of applications including walkways; work stations and platforms; drains and gullies, covers for sumps, pits, ponds and wells; stairwells and ramps; washbays; machine guarding and pontoon decking.
All gratings products are manufactured to ISO 9001 Quality Standards. A high glass content is used in the fibreglass mesh to create superior load bearing capabilities and corrosion resistance and a hardwearing quartz grit is applied to the upper surface to give excellent anti slip properties. The grating is also available as mini mesh and solid top. Some panels are available with a concave or conductive surface.

Anti Slip Stair Nosing
Quartzgrip™ Anti Slip fibreglass stair nosing can be easily fixed to concrete, steel or timber steps by glueing or screwing and is proven to provide superior slip resistance to aluminium or rubber stair nosing. The cappings can be used to revamp damaged stair nosing and reduce trip hazards. The GRP profiles have a silicon carbide grit topping meeting BS7976-2 slip resistance standards. The hard-wearing nosing is available in DDA compliant high-vis colours and there is also a glow-in-the dark range. Nosing is offered in a wide choice of sizes with the extra benefit of a free cutting service.
Stair Tread Covers
Quartzgrip Anti Slip stair tread covers offer the same safety benefits as the stair cappings and are a cost effective way to prolong the service life of stairways and comply with DDA legislation. Several sizes are offered, along with larger covers for landings plus accessories including backing plates. Bespoke stair covers are available on request.
Ladder Rung Covers
Quartzgrip GRP ladder rung covers are available to suit square and tubular rungs to improve traction and slip resistance. They are quick and easy to install with high strength adhesive after removing any corroded material. These durable rung covers are ideal for interior or exterior access ladders, maintenance ladders and fire escape ladders. The bright yellow covers are available to fit rung sizes from 20mm to 25mm and bespoke sizes are available.
Duct, Tank and Manhole Covers
A range of GRP solid top and structurally cored panels are available to suit numerous applications, including pipe and cable service duct covers; manhole covers; pedestrian gangways and disabled access ramps. The panels comprise a glass fibre structural mesh core, reinforced with a glass fibre plate on one or both of the bearing surfaces to give exceptional strength and rigidity. Yet the covers are far lighter than concrete and can be made to be lifted by one or two people. The solid top keeps odours in tanks and features an anti-slip surface that does not impede wheeled traffic.
Fibreglass Platforms and Handrails
Step on Safety offers a design and build service for fibreglass platforms and structures. These installations are ideal for corrosive and marine environments and require minimal maintenance. Examples include:
- Workstation and inspection platforms
- Walkways and pedestrian ramps
- Fixed access ladders
- Stepover ladders
- Stairways.
Fibreglass hand railing and edge protection railing is included where appropriate. Also supplied is Safetyclamp™ structural hand railing in safety yellow corrosion resistant FRP. Warm to the touch, it provides a durable alternative to galvanised clamp handrail systems for numerous applications including hand railing, machine guards and trolley bays.
Anti Slip Plates
Quartzgrip™ plates are available in a variety of sizes and thicknesses to lay over timber, concrete or open mesh flooring to improve traction. They can be used indoors or outdoors on ramps, walkways, bridges, platforms and piers. Black, grey and yellow are standard colours in most sizes with other colours available.
Timbergrip
Timbergrip strips and plates solve the problems of slippery timber decking while retaining the aesthetics of timber.
GRP Ladders and Stairs
Step on Safety manufactures GRP ladders and safety cages in house to individual requirements in dimensional accordance with BS 4211, & BS 5395. Weight for weight, these ladders are far stronger than their metal equivalents and their corrosion resistant and non-conductive properties make them ideal for chemical plants, waste treatment plants, power stations and marine environments.
Tactile Flooring
Quartzgrip™ fibreglass tactile flooring is available in a choice of in-line or offset blisters, or corduroy surfacing to convey warnings and messages to visually impaired people. It is hardwearing and weather resistant and complies with DDA and Building Regulation requirements. The 400mm x 400mm panels are sold individually.
